About
Sustainable Construction and Consulting is a licensed (license # SUSTACC952DQ) and bonded general contractor established in 2005.
As my name implies we embrace sustainable building solutions, but we are first and foremost a general contractor. We work with over twenty building trades companies so that Sustainable Construction and Consulting can apply the right resources to your project.
I include Sustainable in my company name because of my lifelong interest in biology and ecology and want to do my part to help inform my clients of sustainable and environmentally friendly options for their project.
If you are interested in sustainable options I have the expertise and experience to guide you to environmentally efficient and sustainable solutions.
Why Sustainable?
Sustainability can mean different things to different people but one thing we can all agree on is that when it comes to our home we want to avoid costly and dangerous environmental hazards. We may also want to improve the efficiency of our energy usage.
Common Environmental Concerns for Construction
- Material Outgassing
- Material Sustainability
- Matching Material and Construction Technique to Climate & Locale
Material Out Gassing
The issue of outgassing is when a material releases gasses to the environment. The environmental affect of outgassing can range for annoying smells to hazardous conditions. Outgassing need not be accepted as part of a project if you know which products are better suited for indoor use.
Material Sustainability
While not hazardous to your home using unsustainable materials can be hazardous to your community and your planet. It is important to note that in most cases the sustainable material is cost-effective as well as green.
Matching Material and Construction Technique to Climate & Locale
Regardless of the materials picked a major concern is that the material and the techniques used to work with it must be suited to the project locale. Wind, rain and yes, even sun, are important considerations to ensure that any material is most effectively used and can be expected to last.
